The compositions in the album Kingdom of Rain seek to transform the saxophone from a purely melodic instrument into an undefinable and unstoppable force of nature. These solo compositions sculpt the saxophone's sound into transcendent metaphors for emotions not often expressed in music: the inescapable vagaries of change, the ecstatic joy of flight, and the yearning search for renewal amidst destruction. This music utilizes an array of extended techniques to defy conventional musical idioms in favor of raw, provocative, honest, and unusual sounds without abandoning the listener to the chaos of pure noise. Kingdom of Rain is a mythological interpretation of nature in Oregon. It is a musical legendarium. A representation of not only the beauty and truths we experience when we are in nature, but also the emotions and imaginings inspired by it. What prehistoric creatures have lived that we've never seen? What were their lives like? What ancient landscapes did they witness? Kingdom of Rain imagines the answers to these questions with the saxophone and the human body as the primary medium of expression.
